W.S. Gibbs Memorial Park
The planning process has begun on Hendricks County's newest park!
What will W.S. Gibbs Park be like? You can help us decide! We are excited to announce the official planning process has begun. The Hendricks County Park Board has hired Rundell Ernstberger Associates LLC, a firm widely recognized for their creative approaches to landscape planning, to prepare Gibbs Park’s master plan.
What is a master plan?
All Hendricks County parks begin with a master plan, which is a document containing future plans for the property. A master plan is valuable in that it guides the park’s development allowing for the protection of all the notable resources and the optimal, cost-effective development of the property to serve the greatest need within the community. Professionals meticulously research and inventory the land’s resources. It is a detailed process with much emphasis placed on public input.
Where did the land come from?
W.S. Gibbs Park will exist thanks to long-time residents, John and Lydia Gibbs, who agreed in 2010 to sell 140-acres of their family farm to the Hendricks County Park Board at a bargain price as well as set-up an endowed fund for the park once it’s open. Thank you, Gibbs Family! As amazing as the agreement is, the best part is the park will be named after John’s grandfather, W.S. Gibbs, whose legacy will proudly live on for generations to come.
Be involved, help us form the vision for the new park!!!
To participate in the forming the vision for the new park, or to simply follow the progress of the plan, visit the project planning site at www.reasite.com/w-s-gibbs where you can make comments and view a meeting schedule which will be posted once dates are finalized. W.S. Gibbs Memorial Park promises to be a fantastic park that our community will enjoy for generations and YOU can help us form the vision! The master plan is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2013. |
