Library Programs

Hey kids! Hendricks County Parks and Recreation offers a variety of fun and interactive programs throughout the year just for you. Whether we’re walking in Big Walnut Creek looking for fish or making a kite to fly in the prairie, you won’t just be learning about nature, you’ll become part of it! The fun isn't just at McCloud Nature Park, we also take programs to your local library. Look at the schedule below and see what neat stories are coming up.

  Diary of a worm

September
Have you ever thought about what animals are doing outside at night while you sleep?  Join our naturalist for a look at nocturnal adaptations of Indiana's woodland animals in the winter.  After enjoying the story, children will be able to make a deer craft to take home.

  Stellaluna

October
In the cold and quiet woods, children on a hike through the snow find signs that animals have been nearby.  Nutshells, feathers, bark rubbed off a tree are just some of the clues they come across as they wonder Who's Been Here?  Children will learn about some of the creatures found in our woods, and will make a miniature tracking craft.

Join us as we look at this introduction to many kinds of eggs.  From tiny hummingbird eggs to giant ostrich eggs, oval ladybug eggs to tubular dogfish eggs, gooey frog eggs to fossilized dinosaur eggs, it magnificently captures the incredible variety of eggs and celebrates their beauty and wonder.  Our naturalist will lead the children in making an egg craft to take home.

  Stranger in the woods

December
The busy Boston streets are too dangerous for eight little ducklings!  But with a little help from a friendly policeman, Mrs. Mallard and her family arrive safely at their new home.  The public garden was no place for ducklings when they were first born, but now they are old enough to brave the raucous crowds and swim with the giant swan boats.  This winning classic continues to delight generations of children.  We will talk about the variety of ducks in Indiana and then make a duck craft.
